My workshop piece

You Are So Far Away
By: Katrina Rupracht

You are so far away.
I can’t see you.
I can’t hear your voice.
I barely get to talk to you online,
Because of the time difference,
And because you are so far away.

You’ve missed so much,
Throughout the years,
When I wanted my big brother to be there:
To see me walk across that stage to get my high school diploma,
To see me all dolled up for my senior prom,
And to help me move in on my first day of college,
But you couldn’t because you were so far away.

I wish we could hangout like we used to.
Go see a movie, or roam the mall.
Those fun times we had just goofing around
And laughing at each other.
But we can’t because you are so far away.

I hear on the news,
Of explosions and shootings,
So I turn off the TV and don’t read the papers.
Every time I hear something bad,
It makes me more nervous and scared for you.

There’s not a day that goes by,
That I don’t cry because I’m thinking of you.
I wish you would come home safe and sound real soon.

When we talk,
We end each conversation with,
I love you,
I miss you,
And see you soon.

But no matter what I know your there for a reason,
And you have your duty,
To yourself,
As a Father,
To the Army,
And to America,

So when your time is up,
Please come home safe and sound.
I love you,
I miss you,
See you soon.
